18 months to build the data room.

01 — Why You

Big operation. No financial spine.

  • Q1 P&L never compiled. Revenue → EBITDA, all of it.
  • Investor updates blend revenue, bookings, run-rate, ARR. Ameet flagged it April 10.
  • Seven active markets, capacity data, zero per-market P&L.
  • Cash cycle never modeled — big outflows at season start, revenue over 8 weeks.
  • Unit economics stop at aggregate LTV:CAC. Contribution margin per team not defended.
  • Series A target Q2 2027. 18 months to a data room that holds up.

You build all of it. Below is what's already scaffolded — and what's waiting.

Board + lead investors
Ameet Shah(Golden Ventures) — led the $5M seed at $25M post. Board seat. The April 10 feedback is the work. Ben Lerer (Lerer Hippeau) — co-investor, board observer. Both signal-boosting the Series A.

03 — Flagship Projects

Two priorities, one thesis:
credible math.

Every investor, every operator, every new hire needs to trust the numbers. Week 1 work is clearing Ameet's list. The 12-month work is a Series A data room that doesn't flinch.

3.1 · Ameet's Fix-It List

Three issues. One clean investor update.

On April 10, Ameet questioned the clarity of our financial reporting. We're mixing revenue, bookings, run-rate, and ARR in a way that works for a scrappy seed stage — but won't survive a Series A diligence room. Before the next monthly update, these three get fixed.

The three issues

  • Revenue / ARR / bookings blended. $392K run-rate references mixed with $9M ARR from seasonal spikes. Separate bookings, recognized revenue, and projections — label each.
  • Growth vs revenue disconnect. Teams up YoY but revenue only modestly. Investigate pricing mix (divisions, city tiers, promos) and show it.
  • Limited margin visibility. No consolidated unit economics. No per-market P&L. This is the thing that looks like a red flag from the outside.
  • Output: a replacement investor update template the whole team uses from May forward.

The deadline that matters
Why this first
Clean reporting in May = trust compounds to Q2 2027. Messy reporting now = diligence drag later. Ameet is doing us a favor by calling it out.
3.2 · Summer '26 Economics

Three scenarios. All red. Model every lever.

Summer is peak season, but the numbers still sting at current overhead. Every scenario below is loss-making at the per-season level. Profitability requires 85%+ capacity utilization and pricing optimization in Q3–Q4. This is the scoreboard you inherit — and the one you'll fix.

550
Low — $1.7M rev · $370K GP · −$620K ovh · −$250K net
680
Medium — $2.1M rev · $522K GP · −$738K ovh · −$216K net
800
High (target) — $2.6M rev · $728K GP · −$910K ovh · −$182K net

Where the overhead goes

  • $748K salaries — 26 heads across product, ops, league mgmt, studio, exec
  • $60K ops + tech — Supabase, Vercel, Rippling, Customer.io, tooling
  • $30K studio — content, apparel, production
  • $72K other — rent, legal, travel, misc ops
  • Each team above 800 adds ~$3.3K incremental revenue at near-100% contribution margin.

Path to profitability

  1. 1
    Phase 1 · Growth — Q1–Q2 2026
Lock Summer 800, fix reporting, stand up close. You're here.
  2. 2
    Phase 2 · Optimization — Q3–Q4 2026
Pricing mix, capacity utilization, per-market margin expansion.
  3. 3
    Phase 3 · Profitability — H1 2027
    $10M run-rate · 40%+ margin · Series A data room ready.
Why this matters
You inherit a business that knows how to grow but hasn't yet modeled its way to profit. Most finance leaders spend Year 1 arguing with ops about definitions. You'll spend it building the definitions — and the math — from scratch, with the whole company bought in.
3.3 · Markets to Model

Four new launches. Not annualized.

Summer '26 brings four confirmed new markets and one likely Fall add. Each one needs its own best / likely / worst seasonal P&L — not an annualized copy of summer. Facility economics, jersey COGS, ref cost, LM salary all shift by geography. First model output lands on your desk Week 2.

One seasonal model per market, by Week 4. Drivers: facility rent, team count capacity, jersey COGS, ref hours, LM allocation, marketing spend. Output: per-market contribution margin + cash curve.

04 — The Multiplier

Every page you just saw was built with Claude.

Brodie runs on Claude. 26 people doing the work of 150. The Command Centre, the investor updates, the daily leadership pulse in Slack, the per-captain pages, the 15,000-player Wrapped pipeline — all shipped via Claude in hours, not quarters. Your finance function inherits that leverage from Day 1.

1 prompt
Investor update draft, board deck section, per-market P&L rollup — prompt to draft, not clean sheet.
~20 MCPs
Slack, Metabase, Supabase, Stripe, Rippling, Fireflies, Gmail, Drive, Linear, Notion, Gamma, Calendar — wired in.
Day 1
Sadia pre-configures your Claude with every connector + skill before you walk in. Launch-ready.

What Claude does here daily

  • Authors the 9 AM leadership pulse in #starting-5 — pipeline, registrations, CTR, what needs action
  • Runs the Command Centre Financials tab — per-market waterfall, burn, runway, scenario math
  • Drafts every investor-facing document monthly updates, board sections, even data-room memos
  • Ships new pages — from a sentence to a deployed URL in minutes

What you'll use it for

  • Monthly close automation — reconciliation scripts, variance flagging, commentary drafts
  • FP&A modeling— scenario builds, per-market P&L, cohort retention math
  • Investor update drafting — pull numbers from Metabase + Stripe, draft narrative, hand off polished
  • Series A data room assembly— cohort tables, unit economics, market P&L, all agent-built
  • Claude is the reason a 26-person company reports like a 150-person one. Point it at finance and the close compresses from weeks to days.

Equinox, not Planet Fitness. We're building the next Nike of recreational sports. Brand equity is the moat. Your job is to prove the math underneath — so the valuation story holds at every round, not just this one.

Strategic frame

05 — Your Scope

The swim lanes.

What lives under your name. Day 1 through Series A — hands dirty in each one before you hire.

Financial Close
No formal monthly close yet. Stand up close calendar (AP / AR / payroll / revenue cut-off / reconciliations) with Tay. Target 10 business days Month 3, 5 business days Month 6. Stripe is the source of truth for revenue; Float for expenses; Rippling for payroll.
FP&A + Forecasting
Build the rolling 18-month model from scratch. Seasonal, not annualized. Per-market P&L driven by team count, division mix, facility rent, jersey COGS, ref cost. First deliverable: Summer '26 three-scenario model (low / medium / high) cleaned up from Command Centre scaffold.
Unit Economics
Contribution margin per team, per market, per division. CAC by channel in partnership with Marc (Growth). LTV per athlete (1.88 → 2.5+ seasons). Break down the 12.5x LTV:CAC aggregate into something defensible at a Series A pitch.
Cash Management
Big upfront outflows at season start (facility rent + jersey COGS) before registration revenue fully lands. Model the cash cycle. ~$3M on hand post-seed. 12–24 month runway — verify burn first. Treasury: RBC + TD relationships, overdraft protection already in place.
Investor Relations
Monthly updates to Ameet Shah (Golden Ventures, lead) + Ben Lerer (Lerer Hippeau). Quarterly board reports. You own the narrative and the numbers. Ameet's feedback = your Week 1 work.
Series A Readiness
Target Q2 2027. You have ~18 months to build the data room: clean books back to inception, per-market P&L, cohort retention, unit economics, scenario models, org chart, cap table. Golden + Lerer signal-boosting the round.
Compliance / Tax / Audit
Canadian corporate structure, US expansion tax planning (Chicago + Brooklyn already active). GST/HST remittances. First audit ahead of Series A. Rippling handles most payroll compliance; you own the audit readiness story.
Systems
Accounting: evaluate current stack (QuickBooks or equivalent via Tay) against scale needs. Float (expenses), Carta (cap table), Rippling (payroll/HRIS), Stripe (payments), Metabase (analytics), Supabase (app-level financial data). Command Centre Financials tab is the canvas.
Team
Inherited: Tay (Controller) + bookkeepers. Hire: FP&A Analyst (Month 3–4), Finance Ops Lead (Month 6–12). Small team, high leverage — Claude is the force multiplier.
CEO Strategic Partnership
Direct report to Connor. Weekly 1:1. You're the second brain on pricing, market expansion ROI, hire-vs-outsource decisions, and the scenario math behind every big call. Not just reporting — strategic finance.

07 — Day-0 Toolkit

The stackyou'll live in.

Claude + MCPs
Your force multiplier. ~20 integrations wired into Claude (MCPs + API scripts): Slack, Metabase, Supabase, Stripe, Rippling, Fireflies, Gmail, Drive, Linear, Notion, Gamma, Calendar. Monthly investor updates, per-market P&L rollups, scenario models, board decks — prompt to draft in minutes, not days.
Brodie Command Centre (The Lab)
brodielabs.io. Financials tab is your canvas — P&L scaffold, cash flow, unit economics, market-level waterfall, burn, runway. Built in hours with Claude, not bought. You'll evolve it into your daily reporting surface.
Metabase
Live analytics over Supabase. Revenue recognition queries, team-count pacing, registration cohort behavior. Start with cards 4039, 4042, 4070, 4071, 4072. Sohaib and Caio can give you the 10-cent tour.
Stripe
Revenue source of truth. All team registrations flow through here. Subscription + one-time hybrid. You'll own the revenue recognition mapping from Stripe → books → investor reporting.
Rippling
Payroll + HRIS. 26 headcount across Canada + a handful of US. Sadia owns day-to-day; you own the cost-side reporting and forecasting.
Float
Expense management. Tay owns daily; you inherit the cost categorization and the controls story for audit readiness.
Carta
Cap table. $5M seed at $25M post closed — clean. Connor will hand over admin. Series A prep = keep it spotless.
Supabase
Where app-level financial data lives — registrations, payments, refunds, captain funnel state. Read access Day 1. Same schema powers the Command Centre Financials.
Notion
Source of truth for all internal work. Projects DB, Hiring DB, Risks DB, SOPs, meeting notes. Financial process docs live here. Never link a Google Doc for internal work — it goes in Notion.
Slack
#starting-5 (senior leadership — where you'll live), #brodie-leadership-group (broader). Command Centre pulse drops at 9 AM daily. Keep financial sensitive numbers off Slack by default.

Brodie is a once-in-a-career chance to build a finance function for the next Nike of recreational sports — from scratch.

The product, community, and creative firepower are already here. What's missing is the financial spine that turns a cult brand into a compounding, credible, capital-efficient business. That's you.

Let's build.
